Frequently Asked Questions
What is your teaching season?
-
I teach September through the end of May. If students are doing a June RCM exam lessons will continue till the exam is complete.
-
I take 1 week off at Thanksgiving, 2 weeks at Christmas/New Year, and 1 week for Spring break.
What does a lesson look like?
-
A lesson generally includes some combination of the following: some type of warm-up, technique exercise or game, sight-reading and/or ear training practice, repertoire, pieces just for fun, and discussion of music history and theory in connection to pieces being studied, to name a few!

What is included in my piano tuition?
-
Your private lesson time (30, 45, or 60 minutes) tailored to each student's goals and interests.
-
Up to 2 performance opportunities per year.
-
The time outside of your lesson that I spend researching music for each student, creating lesson plans, and keeping up to date on new teaching ideas and resources.
What is your policy regarding missed lessons?
-
If a student cannot attend a lesson in person due to an illness, the lesson can be attended from home via Skype or another type of video call.
-
Lessons missed by the student will not be made up. When you sign up for lessons, your weekly lesson time is reserved for you. It may be helpful to think of swimming lessons or soccer practice, they are not made up if you miss a session. It is time that I set aside to spend investing in you and is valuable time. Another way to think of it is as purchasing the time slot and a space in my studio, rather than 30 minutes of lesson time. This is a helpful article for perspective on missed lessons: https://ottawasuzukistrings.ca/makeuplessons/
-
Any lesson that I need to cancel for any reason will be made up.
What is your payment policy?
-
My studio operates using a monthly charge for lessons rather than a per lesson fee.
-
Payment is to be made twice yearly for 5 months at a time. At the beginning of September for September-January, and the beginning of February for February-June.
What do you charge for lessons?
